What We Believe

We hold firmly to the timeless truths of God’s Word, the Bible. These convictions guide our lives, our family, our ministry, and our mission to Japan.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible, and God-breathed, and therefore are the sole authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments are the complete and divine revelation of God to man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to a grammatical, historical, and pre-millennial perspective. The King James Version of the Bible shall be the official and only English translation used for the purpose of preaching and teaching.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” — 2 Timothy 3:16–17

(2 Peter 1:20–21)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by God's grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. We believe that it is impossible for a sinner to remit his own sins, and that no person can clear his own guilt, and that the only hope of sinners is the blood redemption of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we believe that salvation in no way comes about because of any work of any sort which man might do. Neither is salvation appropriated by a combination of faith and works. Salvation is appropriated exclusively by faith in Jesus Christ and Him only.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9

(Romans 4:1–5; Titus 3:5; Romans 3:20; Ephesians 2:10; Romans 11:6; 3:28; Acts 16:31; John 3:16, 3:36, 5:24; Romans 5:1; 1 John 5:1; John 8:24)

The Church

We believe that a New Testament Church is a visible, local, organized body of born-again believers, who have been scripturally baptized, and who have voluntarily associated and covenanted together to carry out the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ during His earthly ministry organized the first church. He called unto Him whom He would from the saved and baptized followers of John the Baptist and ordained them to be His twelve Apostles. We also believe that John the Baptist received the authority to baptize from God, and we believe our Lord gave His disciples the authority to baptize. Jesus and all the apostles (including the successor to Judas Iscariot) were baptized by John.

We believe that the establishment and continuance of local churches is clearly taught and defined in the New Testament Scriptures. We believe in the autonomy of the local church, therefore it is to be free of any external authority or control.

We believe in two ordinances of the Church:
(a) Baptism by immersion administered by a scriptural New Testament church
(b) The Lord's Supper, which consists of two elements: unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine (grape juice). We believe in closed communion, of which active church members partake.

We believe that the New Testament Church today will believe the same doctrines as the first church. We also hold that true believers in Christ and scriptural churches of all ages were bound together in scriptural ties through fellowship in a common faith and doctrinal unity.

“And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” — Colossians 1:18

(Mark 3:13–19; 1 Corinthians 12:28; Matthew 3:1–17; 4:12–25; Mark 1:1–22; Luke 3:2–18; John 3:23–36; Acts 1:21–22; Acts 14:27; 20:17; 28:32; 1 Timothy 3:1–13; Titus 1:5–11; Acts 13:1–4; 15:19–31; 20:28; Romans 16:1, 4; 1 Corinthians 3:9, 16; 5:1–7; 1 Peter 5:1–4; Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 2:41–42; 18:18; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26)

Missions

We believe the Lord has given the Church the Great Commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations. Therefore, Christ established the Church and commanded it to be missionary. We believe that the Holy Spirit calls missionaries through His local churches and for the work God has planned for them. We also believe the Holy Spirit leads the individual churches to send their missionaries forth. We do not believe mission boards, associations, sending agencies, nor conventions are ever mentioned in the Bible.

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” — Matthew 28:19–20

(Acts 13:1–5; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:20)

These truths are not merely doctrinal positions to us—they are the foundation of our lives and the reason we are going to Japan. We stand unashamedly on the old paths of biblical Christianity and invite you to join us in upholding them for the glory of God.
